Amended QSE Codes – Commentary Period Extended – EconoBEE Newsletter – 07 November 2014

EconoBEE - BEE Points = Business EconoBEE has been working extremely hard since the Amended QSE Codes were released to ensure that the interests of small businesses are kept close at heart. The Minister when gazetting the Amended QSE Codes allowed comments to be submitted up until 14 November 2014 which was only 35 days from the initial gazetting of the codes. In terms of the B-BBEE Act this is incorrect. The Minister is required to offer a minimum of 60 days for commentary.

EconoBEE as a result of the incorrect commentary period issued multiple press releases – Undue haste after long delay, Why is the minister steamrolling the QSE Codes?, Letter to dti regrading the QSE codes commentary period and Small businesses: you are on your own. We also made contact with multiple members of parliament and even drafted a submission to the public protector in a massive effort to ensure small business have an opportunity to be heard.

We are extremely proud and happy to say that our hard work and dedication has paid off. The DTI confirmed to us yesterday that the commentary period would be extended to the required 60 days. This decision by the DTI as a result of the work done by ourselves is a massive step in the right direction, more so it is proof that logical facts in an objective manner is responded to positively by government.

We now encourage all small businesses to use the extended commentary period and offer valid, well researched comments. Those comments will become critical in the next steps of true transformation in South Africa.

If you are not well briefed on the newly gazetted Amended QSE Codes then please download a copy from our website. We are also offering detailed training sessions on the Amended QSE Codes which will give practical insight into how they work, what changes are required and most importantly what a small business can do to remain compliant. And of course who better to present the course then the team who ensured the DTI listened to all small businesses.
